The 1700 is probably the most divisive and (in our opinion) misunderstood of the entire 1000 series. Whilst it's younger siblings – 1300 through 1600 – are regarded as certified grails, the 1700 never received a similar reverence. To say it's wholly disliked would be doing a disservice, like most niche icons the 1700 has a cult following in Japan. Outside of Japan though only the most discerning New Balance aficionados give 1700s the credit they're due.
Thankfully, New Balance understands the 1700 deserves respect – they're giving the shoe another lease on life. This version is almost a remake of an older colourway albeit with a few tweaks. Where the OG 1700 was a questionable quality leather, these are sporting a bit of premo nubuck.
